A. You have unlimited access via FTP. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your discretion.

A. Files must be transferred to the web server by File Transport Protocol (FTP) or Telnet.

Q. How long does it take before my domain name is active?
A. Once the registrar gives the OK, it usually takes up to 72-hours before it is active.

A. If you order our Gold Plan (or above), or any of our E-commerce plans, you have free access to our secure server running SSL (secure socket layer). This allows users of your site to submit credit card information with confidence, knowing that it is being transmitted safely and securely through the Internet.

Q. Is it possible to process credit card transactions in real time?
A. For this we recommend that you choose one of our E-commerce Plans (ABLE Commerce, OS commerce, or Miva).
You need three things to process the credit card payments in real time:

An internet account
A real-time credit card processing account
A shopping cart that supports your choice of a real-time credit card processing solution.

This plan supports all major real-time credit card processing solutions including AuthorizeNet, CyberCash.

Q. Does Freedman?s Hosting provide any database solutions?
A. Freedman?s Hosting supports MySQL and MS PostgreSQL. MySQL database is free with our Gold Plus Plan and higher. MS SQL support is provided with our Windows 2000 plans. MySQL is also supported as an option on our UNIX plans.

Q. What statistical package does Freedman?s Hosting offer?
A. All Freedman?s Hosting plans include WebAlizer or Modlagon. Also, you have access to the raw log files and it is free to use the statistical packages of your choice.

Q. Do you offer any 'ready-to-run' cgi-scripts?
A. Yes, Freedman?s Hosting offers several 'ready-to-run' cgi-scripts with our Gold plan and higher. We will offer them at our discretion.

Q. What are referral logs? Does Freedman?s Hosting offer them?
A. Referral logs tell you the web site from which visitors reached your page. Using this information, you can concentrate your online advertising to maximize traffic to your site. We provide this information in the structure of domain names of the referring pages (not IP addresses), making it easier to interpret and analyze. A. Freedman?s Hosting will install the necessary extensions for you to use FrontPage and is happy to answer your questions related to the use of these extensions. FrontPage extensions are needed to enable you to publish your site with FrontPage, and to run the tools supported by FrontPage: WebBots, ToDo Lists and the FrontPage/Explorer interface.Freedman?s Hosting does not support problems and questions directly related to the use of FrontPage itself. Instead, we will direct you to Microsoft's FrontPage Technical Support.

A. Freedman?s Hosting supports third level domain names with any of our web hosting packages, such as "name.yourdomain.com".

Q. How long does it take for my web address to start working?
A. It's depending on the registrars. It usually takes around 48-72 hours for the domain to fully propagate.

Q. Does Freedman?s Hosting offer domain registration?
A. Yes we do. Register a domain name (.com .net .org .biz .info .name co.uk, .org, .uk, .ca and .TV namespace) with Freedman?s Hosting for only $16.95/year.

Q. Will you give us the temporary web address before our domain name resolves?
A. Yes, before your domain name resolves, we will give you the temporary web address so you can test or setup the account before your domain name fully propagates.

Q. Can I run Common Gateway Interface or CGI scripts on my web server?
A. Yes you can. Each Web Hosting account comes with a personal cgi-bin directory.

Q. Can I have telnet or Secure Shell (SSH) access on the web hosting account?
A. No, you can only access the server from our web control panel and FTP. If you require SSH Access call or please E-mail Support@Freedman?s Hosting with request and reason.

A. Yes, on Windows 2000 and Linux with chilisoft ASP.

Q. Does Freedman?s Hosting offer backups of all my data?
A. Freedman?s Hosting has network backup services (EMC) for all its virtual hosted accounts.

Q. Can I manage my DNS zone files such as creating CNAME, IP POINT and MX records?
A. Yes, you will be able to setup DNS entries such as MX records, CNAME records from your web control panel.

Q. Can I have anonymous FTP using my domain name for public access?
A. Yes, the Anonymous FTP come with Basic and Deluxe web hosting account.

Q. How can I access my e-mail?
A. You can access your e-mail using our Web Mail features or you can use POP3/SMTP.

Q. How do I transfer from my current host to Freedman?s Hosting ?

A. No, Freedman?s Hosting does not host adult content sites.

Q. What is a server?
A. A server is the physical node or computer that holds your files, and performs the task of hosting your website.

Q. What is UNIX? is it for me?
A. Unix is considered the operating system of choice by most hosting professionals. This is due to its reputation as a powerful and flexible, yet very stable OS. Here are a few advantages of Unix:

Many web server applications are available on the Internet; both as freeware and commercial software are intended for use with the Unix OS. This includes many of the scripts, written in languages such as Perl, C, C++, Java, and PHP, which are used to add functionality to web sites.
Sendmail is a Unix subroutine used to send e-mail messages. It is also needed for the performance of many useful programs.
Unix is widely look upon as the most reliable and stable operating system.
It uses text-based commands instead of a graphical user interface.
It doesn't waste memory or disk space on bells and whistles and it is capable of doing a lot more with fewer resources than similar NT systems.

Q. What is NT? Is it for me?
A. It is easier to integrate Microsoft's programs with the NT operating system.
Microsoft's NT operating system has a downside. It is very hard on web servers and will require a generous allowance of resources if you want to maintain a stable platform.
Even with a superior hardware, NT servers will have to be rebooted frequently.

Q. Which should I choose UNIX or NT?
A. If you don't know by now, it is likely that you could choose either operating system and be just fine. We recommend FreeBSD as it is more robust, stable platform and capable of a lot more load than NT.

Q. What is an IP address?
A. IP address is short for Internet Protocol address. An IP Address is a numerical identifier for a computer, or node attached to the Internet.

Q. How do I check if a domain is already registered?
A. Using our domain search you can search for any domain name immediately and find out if it has been taken in any top level domains.

Q. Why should I co-locate or get a dedicated server instead of getting my own connection?
A. The main motive to choose for co-location/dedicated servers is administrative cost, hardware refresh, and support. It is very expensive to sustain your own connection.

Q. What is Co-location?
A. Co-location is the same as a dedicated server except you own the hardware. Usually customers will ship their servers to us and we put them online. This makes sense for customers who are very confident in their ability to manage and configure their machines or have specific hardware

Q. What are the advantages of a Dedicated Server?
A. The advantages include the ability to build an interactive web site capable of handling a high volume of hits per day. This means that the computer's hardware resources and bandwidth are not shared among multiple sites.

Q. Who owns the Dedicated Server hardware?
A. We own and maintain all of the server hardware. If failure occurs, we are prepared to handle all repairs.

Q. Who provides system administration for the Dedicated Server?
A. With a Dedicated Server, you have total administrative control of the server. It is as if you were hosting it at your location. You have the flexibility to configure the system and the applications for your business demands.

A. With a Dedicated Server offering you have full "root" access to the Server.

Q. How are backups handled?
A. Backups are handled by the Dedicated Server Client unless otherwise specified in the contract.

Q. How is each Dedicated Server connected to the Internet?
A. Each Dedicated Server is connected to a 10/100Mb port on our totally switched network. Customers can request a 100Mb port. Just contact support1@hosting.fqq.com/

Q. Who handles the DNS?
A. Clients have the option of running their own DNS or having us handle it for them free of charge.
